Like other 21st century Libraries, our iCentre is not just a place for books and reading, although we do keep an awesome collection of recreational reading, graphic novels, magazines and non-fiction books. We are also a technology and learning hub for the school.
It is a centre of inquiry and learning where students are encouraged to ask questions and seek help where needed. It is a place for developing higher order thinking skills in problem solving, communication and collaboration. In short, great things can happen at the SSCL iCentre!
We are continuing to develop our flexible learning spaces for students and teachers that allow for a variety of teaching and learning activities to take place each day and it is a very busy place across the school week.
Our Cave and Incubator spaces provide modern environments that allow students to form and reform groups, brainstorm ideas and experiment with presentation styles.
The latest technologies for students provide opportunities for them to engage with learning and exhibiting their learning in new ways. A large touch screen, the iBar and a 3D printer are some of the range of facilities available for students' to use.
The rise of the maker movement and interest in STEM has seen the iCentre acquire equipment for students to develop skills in creativity, invention and innovation. We are constantly investigating new ways of working with these tools to develop student skills.
The iCentre is the home of the Stage 4 reading program.
The annual Showcase exhibition takes place in the iCentre.
The iCentre is also the home of the Big Picture advisory which commenced in 2023.
