Sport

Sport is an integral and vital part of Sydney Secondary College Leichhardt School program. It is compulsory for all students between the years of 7-10.

Our sport program aims to provide a substantial range of benefits and activities for all the students and the community. As well as challenging themselves against other competitors, our students have an opportunity to enjoy the activity itself and the social interaction that goes with it.  Most importantly, students improve their movement skills, experience success, feel supported and valued, and develop a healthy lifestyle.

Recreational and grade sport

All students 7-10 participate in sport on Tuesday afternoons. We offer a wide variety of both grade and recreational activities. Some are held on school grounds and some are conducted at local sports grounds or external venues. There are fees involved for grade sport and some recreational sports.

Students select and submit preferred choices in ranked order from the list of sports available for summer and winter. Students choose a summer sport that remains the same for terms 1 and 4. They also choose a winter sport which will remain the same for terms 2 and 3. Sport options may vary each year.

A summary of students' choices can be found by downloading the files below.

SSC is a member of Sydney East Schools Sports Association and our local sporting zone Bligh Zone.

Member schools for Bligh Zone are: Sydney Secondary College Leichardt, Balmain and Blackwattle Bay, Dulwich High School of Visual Arts and Design, Inner Sydney High School, Marrickville High School, Newtown High School of the Performing Arts, Strathfield Girls High School and Tempe High School.

Students who are talented in a specific sport and would like to participate at a competitive level against other high schools have opportunities to participate in sporting teams throughout the year in CHS knockouts and gala days, or to develop their skills as part of the SSCL Talented Athlete Program.
