Sydney Secondary College Leichhardt caters to the diverse needs of our local community. We are a co-educational campus with a selective stream, a non-selective stream, and a Support Unit.
Our dedicated Year 7 transition program supports all students as they begin high school, with tailored in-class and co-curricular activities that build confidence, friendships, and essential skills.

How to enrol
Every child has the right to access quality public education in their local community. If you live in our local intake area, start your journey to join our vibrant school community today. Follow these key steps:
- Check your eligibility: use School Finder to confirm if your address is within our local intake area.
- Apply online: complete our online enrolment application.

At SSC Leichhardt, 60 places in Year 7 are made available to selective students every year. There are no intake areas for selective classes so parents can apply regardless of where they live. Enrolment is by application via the statewide Selective Schools test conducted early in the final year of primary school. For more information see the Department's selective high schools page.
Steps:
- Visit Selective high school and opportunity class placement
- Register to start your application
- Verify your email address
- Log in
- Complete all sections of the application form
- Submit the application form
- Student sits the placement test: 1-2 May 2026
- Family is advised of the outcome.
You can apply for up to three selective schools. You must submit a separate application form for each school and list the schools in the same order of preference.
Late applications
The application period cannot be extended. Make sure you submit your application before the closing date. For more information, check key dates.
Applications for enrolment in the selective stream for 2027 are now open. Applications close 20 February 2026.
The application process for Years 8–10 selective enrolments – including vacancies, assessments, and placement decisions – is managed by SSC Leichhardt Campus. Enrolment is subject to available places and the meeting of academic criteria. There are no intake areas for selective classes.

Students applying to Sydney Secondary College Leichhardt for year 8-10 selective placement should apply using the general application form at this link and include as much supporting evidence as possible, including school reports and NAPLAN reports.
A placement panel – including the Campus Principal or delegate, a teacher representative and a parent representative – considers all applications before an offer is made. Demonstrated evidence of high academic achievement must be evident.
All selective students must be Australian citizens, permanent Australian residents or the child of diplomatic staff.
Waiting lists will be established where there are no places available at the time of application or where requests for enrolment exceed available places. Waiting lists are current for one year. Parents will be advised if their child is being placed on a waiting list.
Applications for 2026 year 8-10 selective enrolment are now closed.
Non-local applications can be by made via the online enrolment application. Non-local applications will be reviewed by the school and are subject to the availability of places, departmental policies, and SSC selection criteria.
Criteria for non-local placement include:
- siblings already enrolled at the school
- proximity and access to the school
- availability of subjects or combinations of subjects
- compassionate circumstances including medical reasons
- recent change in the local intake area boundaries.
Sydney Secondary College Leichhardt Campus welcomes international students and exchange students to study in a safe and supportive learning environment. Our teachers are committed and determined to provide every student with a good learning environment and any assistance in helping the students pursue and fulfil their academic and personal achievements. International students are provided with additional learning support to assist a successful transition into their new learning environment in Australia.

Sydney Secondary College Leichhardt Support Unit is for students with intellectual disabilities or autism spectrum disorder. More information is available here.
Placement in any Support Unit class is through an application to a local disability panel; your child's primary school can assist with the process.
