Transition to high school
Starting high school is an exciting milestone for students and families. Moving from Year 6 to Year 7 can feel like a big change: they are now learning new and more complex subjects in a different environment, surrounded by different peers and teachers. We help every child feel confident and supported during the transition to high school.
Find out more in the Getting ready for high school guide.
What to expect in high school
High school brings new experiences and routines, including:
- a larger school with more subjects, teachers and classrooms
- a timetable with different lessons each day
- moving between classrooms and carrying books and equipment
- more independence and responsibility for homework and study
- new friendships and opportunities to join activities and clubs.
School tours
Throughout the year we run mini group tours, designed to support parents and carers with their child's year 6-7 transition into high school. During the tour, you will be guided by a dedicated staff member, have the opportunity to learn about our diverse curriculum, discover the array of extracurricular activities available to SSCL students, and ask any clarifying questions you may have about SSCL.
We have limited spaces for each tour, so please ensure you register prior to attending, to avoid any disappointment.
Our next mini-tour will be early in 2026 for families interested in enrolling for 2027. Please check back here for dates and booking links or contact us.

Our transition program
We work closely with local primary schools to help students feel ready, with a strong focus on each child’s individual needs. Our transition to high school programs help Year 6 students get ready for Year 7. Activities include:
- orientation days and school tours
- parent information sessions and meet the teacher events
- subject tasters and classroom visits
- interest-based days for primary students such as Primary Fun for string and band students, and the Leichhardt Cup for sporting high achievers
- peer support activities with older students.
During the first weeks of year 7, students take part in orientation activities and assessments to help our staff understand how best to support their learning journey. Year 7 students are also encouraged to attend our weekly Monday Homework Club, where qualified staff provide extra learning support.
