IMP Ensembles

Core Ensembles

Wind Stream

Incoming students to the program who play a woodwind, brass, percussion, or electric bass instrument audition at the start of each year to be placed in either Junior Band (JB) or Concert Band (CB).

Junior Band (JB)

This is the entry-level wind band for woodwind, brass, percussion, and electric bass players with some previous band experience who are playing at around a Grade 1-2 level.

Concert Band (CB)

This is the lower intermediate wind band for woodwind, brass, percussion, and electric bass players with more extensive previous band experience who are playing at around a Grade 2-3 level.

At the end of each year, IMP students are invited to audition for movement to a higher-level Wind Band.

Wind Ensemble (WE)

This is the upper intermediate level wind band for woodwind, brass, percussion, and electric bass players who are playing at around a Grade 3-4 level.

Wind Orchestra (WO)

This is the advanced level wind band for woodwind, brass, percussion, and electric bass players who are playing at the most advanced skill level on their instrument. This is for students who are playing at around a Grade 5 and above level.

Jazz Ensembles

Students who are enrolled in a Core Ensemble and have a high level of instrumental skills are encouraged to audition for an extension ensemble.

Jazz Ensemble (JE)

This is the entry-level jazz band for saxophone, trumpet, trombone, electric guitar, piano, electric bass, double bass, and drum students.

Intermediate Big Band (BB)

This is the intermediate-level jazz band for saxophone, trumpet, trombone, electric guitar, piano, electric bass, double bass, and drum students.

Jazz Orchestra (JO)

This is the advanced level jazz band for saxophone, trumpet, trombone, electric guitar, piano, electric bass, double bass, and drum students.

String Ensembles

Strings Stream

Incoming students to the program who have played a string instrument for at least one year are invited to enroll in the String Orchestra (SO).

String Orchestra (SO)

This ensemble is for violin, viola, cello, and double bass players who have had lessons or played in a string ensemble for at least one year.

Chamber Strings (CS)

This is the advanced level strings ensemble for violin, viola, cello, and double bass players who are playing at the most advanced skill level on their instrument.
