A year at our school
Building STEM leaders
Leichhardt Campus holds two STEM showcases each year. This exciting event features students presenting innovative projects such as tiny smart homes, timber pinball machines, healthy sustainable burgers, and inventive problem-solving prototypes. Attendees, including parents and carers, can enjoy viewing the projects, vote for the People’s Choice Award, and see industry experts select the Judges' Winner.
Instrumental Music Program
Our IMP combines students across each of the three Sydney Secondary College Campuses of Leichhardt, Balmain, and Blackwattle Bay. The program consists of string ensembles, wind bands and jazz bands. The ensembles rehearse once a week before school and all ensembles involve students from multiple campuses who are bussed back to their home campus each morning after rehearsal.
Preparing for the future
At Leichhardt campus, our dedicated careers adviser works collaboratively with students to plan and prepare for their futures, including arranging year 10 work experience, VET courses and other opportunities.
In 2025 opportunities have included White Card Training, Discover Engineering with Engineers Australia, Aviation Day at Bankstown Airport, Health Pathways Showcase at the ICC, Barista Training, and UTS's Big Day In.
Nurturing young artists
Twice a week our artistic students attend our after-school Art Club and work on personal projects of their choosing.
This supportive environment encourages creativity, skill development, and self-expression, allowing each student to explore their unique artistic style and build confidence in their abilities.
Growing together at camp!
Each year, the Year 7 camp helps students build positive relationships, develop problem-solving skills, and enjoy different sports.
Beyond the fun activities, the camp fosters teamwork, resilience, and independence, creating lasting memories and a strong sense of community among students as they transition into high school.
Uniting through sport
Our annual Athletics Carnival is a highlight of the sporting calendar, bringing students together to compete, cheer, and showcase their athletic talents. It’s a fantastic opportunity to promote teamwork, sportsmanship, and school spirit while enjoying a range of track and field events. Students of all abilities are encouraged to participate, making it a memorable day for everyone involved.
Giving back to the community
Each year Sydney Secondary College Leichhardt Campus students raise thousands of dollars for worthy charities through bake sales, dress up days, and sales of badges and other items. Charities that benefitted in 2025 include the Cancer Council, Benevolent Society, Australian Conservation Foundation, Twenty10, Sydney Children's Hospital and many more.
"At SSC Leichhardt, I feel happy to go to school every morning. I have learned so much and the teachers are so kind, especially the year advisers.” — a year 8 student of Sydney Secondary College Leichhardt Campus
