TAP - Talented Athlete Program

The Talented Athlete Program ay Sydney Secondary College Leichhardt campus is a comprehensive initiative designed to cater to the diverse needs of our local high school students who demonstrate exceptional athletic abilities. This program provides a supportive and nurturing environment for these talented young athletes, offering specialised training, access to specialised coaching and facilities, and personalised development plans to help them excel in their chosen sports. By recognising and addressing the unique needs of each participant, the Talented Athlete Program empowers students to reach their full potential both on and off the field, fostering a culture of achievement and well-being within the school community.

Athletes receive one- two weekly training sessions led by certified PDHPE staff members. These sessions take place in the school gym, oval, and sports hall, focusing on various fitness components including cardio-respiratory endurance, muscular endurance, strength, flexibility, speed, and agility. The TAP program encompasses athletes from diverse sports such as swimming, athletics (both track and field events), rugby league, cricket, AFL, and soccer. Each athlete focuses on components tailored to their chosen sport(s) and individual goals.

In prior years, the SSC Leichhardt TAP program achieved notable success, with numerous athletes demonstrating outstanding performances at zone, regional, and state levels in their respective sports. We aim to further enhance and expand upon this success. The TAP athletes benefit from exclusive access to specialised fitness equipment, which has been procured, in part, through the nominal fee associated with TAP program membership.

As this program is highly sought after, trials are necessary and take place early in term 1 each year. For further information about this program, please contact the school.
